Walking is the new running

Walk…

It's beneficial for brain & body (and your doggo).

Walking is one of the best self care activities (outside of coming to yoga/Pilates class). Something you don’t need too much technique training for.* You didn’t get taught as a baby, you just instinctively knew.

Running can be harsh on joints, did you know... studies have shown that when running forces on the knee joint can be up to 5 times your body weight. It's up to 8 times for the ankle joint! Eek.

In order to run effectively, you need strong core, back & legs. I guess thats where Yoga & Pilates come in. As well as strength, running requires greater range of motion & greater balance. So building up to running, if that's your goal, make sure you don't just chuck your runners on & pound the streets. Do the work, strengthen & mobilise. (Notice stretch wasn't in that sentence, that's for another blog. Or drop me a message if you can't wait for that.)

Walking benefits:

  • Improves cardio health

  • Strengthens bones & joints

  • Mood boosting & stress relief

  • Improves sleep

  • Less impact injuries

  • Improves circulation

  • No equipment required

Walk before you can run. It’s better for your joints. Plus you get to appreciate the views around you.

*some of us are wonky & have imbalances. Training/re-training may be required. Come talk to me 👌
